Client: Nexme

Role: Lead UX, Head of Design

Online: www.nexme.com

Overview: Nexme is a real estate startup that aims to deliver a seamless end to end home buying experience, starting with the home search and continuing through touring, making an offer, and selling their old home. I was hired as the head of design (and sole UX designer) to help design and direct not only the experience on the website and app, but also to help shape the business strategy. The main goal was to create the MVP app and website to gain users and funding. The design of this MVP successfully attracted enough homebuyers and gained enough traction to raise a $500k seed round of funding.

The Problem: The home buying and shopping process has been relatively unchanged for a long time. The process of buying a home is very disjointed, and it is difficult to see a clear path through all the pre-approvals, shopping, touring, making an offer etc. Nexme is an end to end streamlining of this process. The app saves everyone time and money by connecting vetted agents to homebuyers on demand. This time savings means that we can also return a piece of the agent’s commission back to the user.

Website

Designing the website was a large research undertaking in both how the user would effectively navigate through tasks, and how the user would understand the Nexme value proposition. There are multiple personas at play here; Home buyers, home sellers, and real estate agents. While planning out the site's archetecture and content I spent time meticulously combing through how successful competitors reach their audience, A/B testing different screens with real users, and interviewing real estate agents. The site is live, but full functionality is still being built to my design specs.

App

Above are some sample user flows from the in app experience. The app is designed in a way which allows users to go through the entire homebuying process within the app itself.

The primary flow is a user searching for a home, viewing the home details, and requesting to tour. The biggest stand out in this flow relative to other real estate apps is the "instant tour". When a user requests a tour, the closest available agent is notified and can accept the tour (similar to Uber). When an agent accepts, the user can go tour the house right then.

Nexme allows users to make an offer straight through the app, streamlining the whole process. When a user makes an offer, the app asks them questions that an agent would, and provides helpful tips. The offer then goes to an agent for legal submission.

By simplifying the agent's work, Nexme is able to give a comission rebate on all home sales. That means user's pay less for a house.
